Free one to one Webinar

Posted by email

There will be a free one to one webinar today hosted by edweek.org.  The event will run from 2-3 PM Eastern time.  You can register in just a few minutes using this link.  The description of the webinar along with information on presenters are included at the bottom of this post.  Hopefully many of you will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.  It is worth noting that you can submit questions when you register.

Efforts to put laptops, netbooks, or other mobile computing devices in the hands of every student are gaining traction. The goal of such 1-to-1 computing initiatives is to customize students’ learning, and to enable anytime, anywhere access to Web resources. Despite budget shortfalls, Maine has been moving forward to expand its 1-to-1 computing initiative, and school districts around the country are following suit, saying the programs are having a positive impact on student learning in the digital age. Join three experts for an in-depth discussion of 1-to-1 computing.

Presenters:

Matt Federoff, chief information officer, Vail School District, Vail, Ariz.
Steve Garton, coordinator of educational technology, Maine Department of Education
Brion Deitsch, superintendent, Fairview Park City Schools, Fairview Park, Ohio

Education Week Moderator:
Michelle R. Davis, senior writer, Education Week Digital Directions

Project RED needs your help!

If you're the principal of a technology-rich school (i.e., all you 1:1 principals out there), Project RED is asking you to help them with its nationwide survey. Project RED may be doing the best research in the country right now on 1:1 schools. The results will be used for policy advocacy. Hope you can help out with Project RED. After you complete the survey, check out the other resources that are available to you!

Wi-Fi turns rowdy school bus into rolling study hall

Check out this article in the New York Times on how the Vail, Arizona school district has transformed one of its school buses into a rolling study hall equipped with wireless Internet access for students. Could be a great solution for some of your students' long bus rides?
